Controversy Around the Health Contribution Bill

Some are appealing to President Andrzej Duda not to sign the latest bill lowering it, while others are doing quite the opposite.

𝗧𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘇 𝗦𝘇𝘆𝗽𝘂ł𝗮 – President of the National Federation of SMEs – has spoken out on the matter.

Those who are appealing for the bill not to be signed are probably forgetting one key thing. All those entrepreneurs, for whom functioning is now supposed to be made easier thanks to the lowered “health tax,” and thus improve their competitiveness, are the providers of around 65–70% of taxes! Entrepreneurs pay both for themselves and for their employees. They are responsible for paying all taxes. We’re talking not only about taxes, but also about health insurance contributions and the “health tax” – commonly referred to as a contribution. If this is forgotten, it may soon turn out that the number of entrepreneurs paying these “dues” will begin to decrease. A serious problem will arise then. As a society, we will have to fill in the gaps that will emerge after those who will have to close their businesses because they go bankrupt or move into the grey market. This will certainly lead to tax increases for everyone. At present, we observe that micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises are once again becoming a synonym for wrongdoing, and are often portrayed as those who will cause a hole in the healthcare budget. However, it must be clearly stated that this is not the fault of entrepreneurs. It is not entrepreneurs who are responsible for the disastrous situation in the Polish healthcare system. We, the entrepreneurs, have nothing to do with it. That responsibility lies with those governing our country – especially those involved in the healthcare sector. I was convinced that the times when the entrepreneur was blamed for everything had passed for good. Meanwhile, numerous publications and insinuations from certain politicians and commentators claiming that improving the situation of entrepreneurs will harm another area are completely untrue and misleading. Lowering contributions for entrepreneurs will, firstly, allow them to remain active on the market, and secondly, the funds saved can be invested in the development of their companies. This will lead to greater income, which in turn means paying more taxes and contributing more funds to the state budget – including to healthcare.
